(The Holy Spirit Is God’s Gift To You)
TO THE BIBLE: Acts 5:32
“And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
LET’S TALK
When it comes to receiving the Holy Spirit, a lot of people misunderstand the Scriptures.
For example, in Luke 11:13, Jesus said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Jesus wasn’t talking to Christians here. He was talking to those under the Old Covenant.
Back then, anyone could have received the Holy Spirit just by asking, but sadly, most didn’t because they never asked.
Jesus said ask and it shall be given to you (Luke 11:9). However, after Jesus rose from the dead and the New Testament began, the Word never tells us to ask for the Holy Spirit.
What we’re told is how the apostles ministered the Holy Spirit to people; they “…prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit” (Acts 8:15), and some received without prayer (Acts 10:44-46).
So, there’s no need to ask God for the Holy Spirit today because He’s already been given to everyone! All you need to do is believe the Gospel and you can receive Him.
The Bible says in Acts 2:17, “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people…” (NIV).
Notice God didn’t say, “I will pour out of My Spirit upon all Christians,” but “upon ALL PEOPLE.” This is the Father’s blessing which has come today!
Without the Holy Spirit, you can’t truly live the Christian life. God desires that you walk in the fullness of the Spirit and live righteously and victoriously in this present world.
Galatians 3:14 says, “…Receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” So, if you haven’t received the Holy Spirit since you’ve been born again, you can receive Him now by faith—just the same way you received salvation in Christ.
All you need to do is simply say, “Dear Father, I thank you for the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. I open my heart now, and I receive Him by faith, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
While thanking Him, you’ll be filled with the Spirit, speaking in tongues and prophesying, Glory to God!
