The Second Coming Of Christ

Is primarily a time of judgment for the world? When you read 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2, you discover that the Day of Christ refers to the second coming of Christ.

It’s the day of His wrath, the day of His judgment (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8), and this judgment happens before He establishes His Millennial reign—His one-thousand years of peace—on earth.

There’s so much to be said about this, but, for now, here are some interesting facts about the Second Coming of Christ.

1. The Second Coming Is Not Meant For Christians
The Second Coming of Christ is NOT intended for Christians, while the Rapture of the Church is meant for Christians (Remember, we treated the Rapture in last month’s edition).

2. The Saints Are Returning To The Earth At His Second Coming
He’s not coming alone; we will be coming together with Him to execute judgment on sinners. Remember we went with Him at the Rapture of the Church.

So, we are not waiting for the second coming of Christ; we will be returning, after the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, with Him to the earth (Jude 1:14-16).

3. The Duration Of The Second Coming Is Not Like The Rapture!
Unlike the Rapture of the Church, in His Second Coming, the Lord Jesus Christ will be in the air for a whole day—24 hours—for all the nations to see Him (Matthew 24:30).

4. His Return Happens 7 Years After the Rapture Of The Church.
Seven years before the second coming of Christ, the Rapture will take place (1 Thessalonians 4:17), and we’ll go to heaven for the Investiture of Christ and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

5. Jesus Is Returning To Earth Wearing A Robe Dipped In Blood.
After the Marriage Supper, that wonderful party in Heaven, is done, the Lord Jesus on a white horse, wearing a robe dipped in blood, returns in His Second Coming to the earth.

Revelation 19:13 says, “He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.”

The significance of this? His robe dipped in blood is His proof and receipt of purchase of the whole world (Matthew 13:44, 1 Corinthians 6:20, 1 Peter 1:18-19).

6. He Will “Smite” The Antichrist At His Coming!
At the second coming of Jesus, the Bible says He’ll smite the Antichrist “…with the spirit of his mouth…” (2 Thessalonians 2:8), which refers to the sword of the Spirit—the “Rhema” of God—words coming out of His mouth (Revelation 19:15, Ephesians 6:17). Glorious news!

7. It Happens Immediately After The Great Tribulation.
In Matthew 24:29, where Jesus Himself speaks about this, He said, “Immediately after the tribulation of those days….” This indicates that the Second Coming of Christ will occur after the Great Tribulation.

Guess what? You don’t have to wait till the Second Coming of Christ to be with Jesus. At the Rapture, everyone who received Him as Lord will get to be with Him forevermore.
