(The Holy Spirit: An Awesome Personality)
TO THE BIBLE: John 14:16 AMPC
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever.”
LET’S TALK
The Holy Spirit is not a smoke or cloud, nor is He a light; He is not a thing! The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead. He is the last of the Trinity to be known by us.
In Genesis 1:1, God was introduced to us as “Elohim” (Hebrew), which is plural for God. Then, in the second verse, we are told that “the Spirit of God moved over the face of the deep.”
Thus, even though the Holy Spirit is the first to be revealed from “Elohim,” He is the last that we become acquainted with, as Jesus explained to His disciples in John 14:16-17: “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
The Holy Spirit is exactly like Jesus. He does not receive power from God; in fact, He is the power of God! He is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father. He is not less than the Father, nor is He less than Jesus.
If you were to go to heaven, you would not find the Holy Spirit outside the Father, for He is in the Father.
On earth, His presence is everywhere! Wherever you go as a child of God, the Holy Spirit goes with you, and His presence rubs off on everything connected with you.
He does not have a different name; “Holy Ghost” or “Holy Spirit” is a description of His person and character.
Jesus said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name…” (John 14:26).
This simply implies that although the Holy Spirit has no name of His own, He answers to the name of Jesus.
There are so many things to learn about this awesome Personality! He is the Beauty of heaven—our Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. Hallelujah!
