Keep The World Lit! – Rhapsody Of Realities TeeVo Devotional November 10th
(You Are The Light Of The World)
TO THE BIBLE: John 1:5 AMPC
“And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].”
LET’S TALK
The Apostle John describes how Jesus (the Word) was in the world, but the world never recognised Him. He unequivocally states that God’s Word is life; that life being the light of men!
In the fifth verse, he continues, “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” The word translated “comprehend” is the Greek “katalambanō,” and it means to seize, attain, overtake, or overpower.
It also means “to overcome.” Thus, the light shines in darkness and the darkness can’t attain to its power; it can’t overcome or overpower it.
Think about this: have you ever turned on a light, and the darkness in the room was so intense that it made the light disappear? That could never happen! Even the smallest flicker dispels the deepest darkness. That’s how powerful light is.
This should help you understand who you are. When Jesus said, “You are the light of the world…” (Matthew 5:14), He was talking about your calling as a Christian, and you must become conscious of this truth.
You are to light up the dark places around you. Darkness can’t comprehend you because you’re shining as God’s light!
Right where you are, you’re the light. If there are problems, you’re the one with the answers. You’re the one with creative ideas and solutions.
Therefore, light up your world today: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16 AMPC).
