JESUS: The Fulfillment Of Messianic Prophecies

There were more than 322 prophecies about the Messiah in the Old Testament, and the Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled every last one of them.

Now, what are the odds of that? Well, they’re at least one in 100 quadrillion (1017)! That’s the probability of one person coincidentally fulfilling just 8 of the messianic prophecies, as calculated by a renowned Mathematics professor.

He further calculated the probability of one person fulfilling 48 messianic prophecies as 1 in 10157!

To illustrate this point, imagine that we laid 100 quadrillion (1017) silver dollar coins all over Texas (about 262,000 square miles); that would be two feet-deep of silver coins all across Texas!

Now, let’s assume we marked one coin and thoroughly stirred it into the whole mass, then we blindfolded a man and asked him to travel as far as he could across Texas with one mission—to pick the marked silver coin.

The odds of him picking that marked coin at his first attempt would be the same any man would have had of fulfilling just eight prophecies about the Messiah without him being the very Son of God!

Below are just seven of these messianic prophecies that were fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ:

1. His Lineage: The Lord Jesus fulfilled prophecies about the Messiah’s lineage, which include being a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, and King David. This specific lineage is outlined in Old Testament verses like Genesis 12:3, 17:19, and 2 Samuel 7:12-13. Matthew 1:1 and Luke 3:31 confirm Jesus’ genealogy from these figures.

2. His Divinity: The Old Testament describes the Messiah with divine attributes. Micah 5:2 speaks of the Messiah as eternal, and Isaiah 9:6 calls Him “Mighty God” and “Everlasting Father.” New Testament passages such as John 1:1-18, 1 John 1:1-3, 2 Timothy 1:8-10, and Philippians 2:9-10 affirm these divine claims about Jesus.

3. His Virgin Birth: Isaiah 7:14 predicted the Messiah’s virgin birth. This prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus, as described in Matthew 1:18, Luke 1:26-35, and Luke 2:6-14, demonstrating the divine element in His birth.

4. His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem: Zechariah 9:9 prophesied that the Messiah would enter Jerusalem triumphantly riding on a donkey and her colt. This prophecy was divinely and precisely fulfilled in the Lord Jesus when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and her colt, as detailed in Matthew 21:1-11 and John 12:12-16.

5. The Timing of His Death: Daniel 9:24-26 predicted the Messiah would be “cut off” 483 years after the restoration of Jerusalem. Historical calculations place Jesus’ crucifixion within this timeframe, aligning with Daniel’s prophecy.

6. The Manner of His Death: Old Testament prophecies indicated the Messiah would be “pierced” (Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV; Zechariah 12:10; Psalms 22:16). Jesus was executed by crucifixion (Matthew 27:35), which required the piercing of His hands and feet. While hanging on the cross, a Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear, and John the apostle confirms this as yet another fulfillment of prophecy (John 19:34-37).

7. His Ministry of Healing: Isaiah 35:5-6 describes the Messiah performing extraordinary healings. Jesus’ ministry, as recorded in the Gospels (Matthew 9:35; Mark 5:25-34; Luke 6:17-19; John 5:1-9) and Acts 10:38, included numerous outstanding healing miracles, fulfilling this prophecy.

These and more than 315 other fulfilled prophecies proved beyond any doubt (reasonable or otherwise) that Jesus is indeed Messiah and God. He claimed it; it was affirmed by others of Him; but most importantly, He demonstrated it by His supernatural fulfillment of every messianic prophecy in Scripture.

And just has He fulfilled all the prophecies about His birth, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension, He will most certainly fulfill the prophecies about His imminent return for His Church at the Rapture. So stay prepared for this, and don’t be caught unawares!
