(God’s Sprit Grants You Revelatory Understanding)
TO THE BIBLE: Ephesians 1:17 AMPC
“[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him.”
LET’S TALK
In Matthew 16:13-20, Jesus threw some heavy questions at His disciples about His identity. First, He asked, “Who do people say I am?” After hearing their responses, He hit them with a second but more personal one: “But who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15).
Peter stepped up and declared, “…You’re the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).
Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Christ was a revelation from God, but Peter didn’t know it; He thought it was his reasoning.
Jesus had to tell him, “…Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 16:17). Hallelujah!
Just like Peter, many of God’s people have received revelations from God. Think about it: How did you know Jesus is the Christ? It’s the Holy Spirit that revealed it to your spirit.
The Bible says, “…No one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3).
Think about it: you believe in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ; you read about it in the Scriptures and believed it. That was the Holy Spirit granting you insight into that mystery.
Likewise, the resurrection of Jesus Christ—you weren’t there when it happened, but you believe.
It’s part of the ministry of the Spirit in us—the unveiling of truth. So, trust Him with your life. Make knowing Him more and living His Word your greatest passion.
Through that fellowship, He’ll keep unveiling Himself and the greater mysteries of the Kingdom to you.
