Double-Check With God – Rhapsody Of Realities TeeVo Devotional November 5th

(Examine All You Hear With The Word)

TO THE BIBLE: 1 John 4:1 MSG

“My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God….”

LET’S TALK
Romans 13:1 says, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”

Some people take this to mean they should just follow whatever anyone with authority says. They might think, “He’s a famous leader, so he must be right,” but that’s not how it works.

The above verse means you shouldn’t just follow anyone without checking where their authority comes from. It could even come from the wrong source. Be careful, because a leader chosen by God might still go against what God wants.

The Scripture is replete with examples of people who disobeyed God even though they were chosen by Him. For instance, in 1 Samuel 15, Saul was told to destroy everything in his battle against the Amalekites.

He followed most of the instructions but spared King Agag and some of the best animals. God told Samuel, “I regret making Saul king because he hasn’t followed My commands” (1 Samuel 15:11 AMPC).

Just because you agree with what someone in authority told you doesn’t mean it was from God. Always remember that God’s Word is the supreme authority by which we judge all things. Always weigh and double-check what you hear with the Word!

Dear Father, I consciously weigh every instruction against the truth of the Word, irrespective of who gives it. My steps are ordered by you, through the Word and your Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
